Ithe project "The valley of the Abbeys" aims to promote and encourage religious tourism through the creation of a tourist route to a religious system that puts the beautiful abbeys and religious buildings on the territory of the Union of Municipalities "Hills Middle Vomano" and municipalities partners, places of worship and prayer but also architectural and artistic masterpieces as well as centers of monastic communities which have played a crucial role in the economic development of this part of the territory.

Therefore we propose to:

• Encouraging religious tourism;
• Protect and enhance the cultural heritage, historical, the memory and traditions of the valleys of Vomano and the Mavone;
• Promote abbeys in the context of actions for territorial development through an integrated approach, by relating to other resources and initiatives of the reference areas;
• Encourage the creation of integration relations with players in the area that offer other services (accommodation, Restaurants, transport, guide, etc. ...);
• Encourage the seasonal adjustment of tourist flows;
• Allow a more complete fruition of monumental, artistic, archaeological and natural;
• Spreading a greater awareness custodians of this heritage, historical, culturale and religious;
• Put in the network the route with the regional and national circuit of paths and routes in tourism religious.

Project implemented by the municipalities "Hills Middle Vomano" (Municipalities of Basciano, Canzano, Castellalto, Cellino Attanasio, Cermignano, Penna Sant'Andrea), by the municipalities of Castel Castagna, Morro d’Oro, Notaresco e Isola del Gran Sasso, con la collaborazione di ITACA – Associazione per lo sviluppo locale e il cofinanziamento della Regione Abruzzo a valere sulle risorse delle azioni autonome del progetto interregionale “Itinerari di Fede” ai sensi del c.5, art.55 L.135 / 2001 annualità 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
